معنای «اعتدال»
واژة «اعتدال» به معنای «میانه روی و میانه است». و با یکی از معانی واژة«اقتصاد» در زبان عربی مترادف مینماید. این واژه، در متون عربی و قرآن وروایات، در یک معنا به کار میرود. در مقابل، انحراف از اعتدال و گرایش بهفزون تر «افراط» یا «اسراف» و گرایش به کمتر تفریط خوانده میشود. امامعلی(ع) میفرماید:
هرچه از حدّ اعتدال خارج شود، اسراف نامیده میشود.
و در خطبه 126 نهجالبلاغه میفرمایند:
الا و ان اعطاء
المال فی غیر حقه تبذیر و اسراف.
آگاه باشید که بخشیدن مال در غیر
موردش تبذیر و اسراف است؛
انسانی معتدل است که، افزون بر کارهای آشکار و بدنی، در کارهایروحی و قلبیاش نیز اعتدال داشته باشد؛ چنان که حضرت لقمان(ع) فرزندشرا به اعتدال در رفتارهای آشکار و نهان سفارش میکرد:
در مشی خویش معتدل باش.
میتوان گفت مراد از «مشی»، «روش و رفتار» است؛ یعنی باید روش ورفتار انسان در تمام امور اعتدال و میانه روی باشد.
